Things are amazing here. The past two days have been very busy and wonderful.

On Monday , my day started by meeting Ambassador Gavin. We decided on the perfect location for my installation at her house. Then we were off for the rest of the day having introductions and interviews. One interview was with The Voice, a local newpaper and the other with Yarona FM, a local radio station. I also got a tour of the Embassy, and then ended the day at my hotel to finish prepping for my lectures.

Yesterday, Tuesday, was an amazing and truly inspring day. It started with my lecture at Univeristy of Botswana, and ended with a lecture to the local art students and the College of Education in Molepolole, at village 50k from Gaborone. This is the only instituation in the country with an higher education Art program. The students and the faculty were truly inspiring. The questions were about concept and process. Their curiosities were about dialogue, material, compostion, color etc. It was an amazing conversation! All very eager to know more and stay connected to international artists.

Today I start my workshop at Thapong Arts Center… more to come.

safely across the pond

I made it safely to Johannesburg, and am writing from the Intercontinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport Hotel. My layover in Joburg was from 5pm-925am… just long enough to justify checking into a hotel for a hot shower, room service and comfortable bed. The accommodations are lovely and service is prompt and gracious. The service at the airport was great as well. I was personally escorted through the line at customs– which had nothing to do with the fact that I am travelling as a guest of the ambassador. It was just plain and simple African hospitality. I asked a question of the gate guard and he answered and then said that I didn’t have to wait in “that long line” , instead he would have some one escort me to the hotel!

I am now off to catch my flight to Gaborone, Botswana. More to come..
